Best of the Web #45

KayakingGood afternoon (or other variant based on where you are), and welcome to another edition of best of the web.  This past week had a lot of photography roundups, everything from out-of-bounds style to tilt-shift photography.  Also, there were two interesting tutorials on comic and cartoon style illustrations.  My personal favorite post was a review of Photoshop brushes by SmashingMagazine, but of course, all the posts from past week that are included here are pretty good and definitely worth seeing.

Anyways, hope you all like, and as always, if you have any comments or suggestions for me, or want to contribute, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Have a great day!

28 Astounding Illustrations by Michael Dashow

thumbMichael Dashow is a science fiction, fantasy, and childrens’ 2D and 3D artist.  While his works are often made digitally, he is also an expert at watercolor painting.  His illustrations have been featured in such publications as ImagineFX, Fantasy Art Magazine, Expose, and others.  He has won several awards, including multiple CGSociety challenges.  One of his most notable clients is Blizzard Entertainment, where he worked on Diablo II and III.

His illustrations encompass a wide range of styles, from emotional to bizarre, but each piece is a masterpiece, and his capturing of the finest details is one of the ways he stands out  in the world of illustration.  For some of his works, I have included both the large version, and the detail version, so you can see the incredible amounts of effort and talent that are involved in each piece.

I hope you like Michael’s work as much as I do, and be sure to check out his website, located here: http://www.michaeldashow.com/

20 Fresh Vector Illustrations

thumbBy Nate Jelovich

The main difference between vector illustrations and others, such as bitmap (aka raster), is that vectors will not degrade in quality no matter how large they are scaled. Vectors work by using mathematical formula to store the data such as lines, shapes and colors. Where bitmap images (which account for nearly all images displayed online) are composed of pixels, vectors are composed of points, lines and curves. As you can imagine, working with vector images provides much more flexibility.

Check out the 20 fresh vector illustrations below!
