32 Breathtaking Matte Paintings Dylan Cole
Nov 11, 2009 Featured, Inspiration
Matte painting is one of the coolest types of digital art. The combination of photography, 3d rendering, and painted effects results in photorealistic concepts that are unbelievable. Dylan Cole is probably the most well known matte painter, with his work prominently featured in Lord of the Rings. He graduated with a Fine Arts degree from UCLA, and after working as a traditional painter, he made the jump to digital painting.
Aside from his work on Lord of the Rings, he also has produced several Gnomon DVDs (which are really interesting, so if you’re curious about matte painting, check them out), and worked on major titles such as G.I. Joe, The Golden Compass, Eagle Eye, Pirates of the Caribbean, Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift, and iRobot. This post showcases 32 matte paintings from Dylan, some of which I’m sure you’ll recognize.
Hope you like the post, and if you do, subscribe so you can get all the future posts delivered straight to you.
Have a great day!

31 Gorgeous Contemporary Abstract Paintings by Mario Martinez
Aug 19, 2009 Inspiration
MARS-1 (aka Mario Martinez) is a left-handed artist who spends most of his time in the right side of his brain, communicating through a visual language. His unique imagery explores possibilities of otherworldly existence through highly developed, multi-layered landscapes. Often employing a fuzzy-logic aesthetic, Mars-1’s artwork has a sentient appearance, like a tulpa—which in mysticism, is the concept of a materialized thought that manifests into physical form. His unique style has been described as urban-Gothic, sci-fi abstracted, quasi-organic form.
Early inspirations include: graffiti, animation, comic book characters, ufology, extraterrestrials, unexplored life, mysteries of the universe, alternate realities and the abstract quality of existence. At the age of 13, Mars-1 began writing graffiti in his hometown of Fresno. He later attended Academy of Art in San Francisco, where he currently lives and works, remaining heavily active in the city’s contemporary art scene.
The true meaning of Mars-1’s imagery is ultimately left to the viewer’s interpretation. The artist feels this brings his creations full-circle, encouraging his audience not only to decipher the messages he wishes to convey but to receive thoughts and ideas of their own, as well. Be sure to check out his website, located here: http://www.mars-1.com/info.html
