Sorry I can’t get excited over wallpapers for the desktop. Since I am using my computer most of the time, I don’t spend a lot of time looking at a picture. Personally I prefer a nature scene to a block of color with some fading.
As for people “adopting” windows 7 (surge of popularity???), more like no choice from the vendors. Windows 7 or windows 7.
